I love collecting things. My main, and largest, collection is my Batman collection. I literally have SO MUCH Batman stuff, that I have 90% of it stored in boxes because I can’t keep it all on display at the moment, at least not until I have more space. But I collect more than just Batman stuff. I collect horror and Marvel things, Nightmare Before Christmas, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, Star Wars (love me some Stormtroopers), etc. I’ve really gotten into Pop! Vinyl figures from shows and movies and games that I love. Which reminds me – I also have a huge book and movie collection. Basically – if I love it, there’s a chance I collect it.
This love of collecting, especially my Batman addiction, isn’t limited to just what I can find locally or order online. More than once I’ve bought things for my collection while on a trip for a completely different reason.
For example, when I went to New York for a writing conference, I came home with a new Batman shirt and a few small pieces for my collection.
Or, when I went to Boston, and came home with the entire Batman: the Animated Series / New Batman Adventures on DVD.
As of late, I buy a lot of collection related stuff from comic cons, which makes sense really. For example, my trip to Wizard World Chicago produced some of these beauties:
Ben McKenzie, aka James Gordon from the Fox TV series “Gotham” autographed that photo for me.
Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth in Gotham, also gave me an autograph.
ANNNNND an autograph from Adrienne Barbeau, who voiced Catwoman in Batman: The Animated Series / New Batman Adventures.
Signed cover reproduction art from Neal Adams.
Signed copy of Batman and Psychology by Travis Langley.
But, of course, I left with more than just some autographs:
But another place I’ve found to be great for adding to my collection has been Six Flags. I went back in October for the Justice League: Battle for Metropolis ride (you can read about that here). I left with SO MUCH COLLECTION STUFF:
That isn’t even all of it. Needless to say, I have a 2016 Season Pass.
More recently, on my trip to Orlando, I found two very odd items for my Batman Collection in the strangest hotel gift shop ever:
Batman Forever Two-Face and Robin keychains from 1995!
And then there’s Wizard World Reno:
So, I travel for more reasons than one, but I always have my eyes peeled for awesome bits of merchandise to add to my ever-growing collection.
Is there anything you collect? Have you found anything cool while on an adventure somewhere? Share in the comments below!
