Hazbin Hotel is the story of Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. She opens a hotel in hopes that patients will be “checking out” into Heaven. While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie, and their first test subject, adult film-star Angel Dust, stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the “Radio Demon” reaches out to Charlie to assist in her endeavors, her crazy dream is given a chance to become a reality.

I hadn’t heard of Hazbin Hotel until YouTube suggested the pilot episode to me just the other day. And last night, I decided to take time to check it out, going in completely blind.

…well, I’m in love.

Hazbin Hotel is an adult cartoon, meaning there are themes and language not meant for younger children. Adult cartoons are pretty hit or miss, for me. But this one hit all the right marks. Plus, I’m obsessed with Alastor:

The characters are all fun and different, while all feeling like they definitely belong in this universe. It’s a pretty cool take on Hell and demons, which I’m always down for. The art style and colors are perfection. And THERE’S EVEN MUSICAL NUMBERS WITH DEMONS.

All it took was this free pilot on YouTube to sell me on the potential of this show. Now I’m eagerly waiting for news on the show, read the first part of the online comic – which I’ll get to as well in a moment – and, of course, it made me passionate enough about it that I wanted to share a post for my readers about it, in case any of you may be interested as well.

But! Unfortunately, there is no immediate promise of a new episode any time soon. They’re weighing the options for the next step, after the overwhelmingly positive response to the pilot episode – get it green lit? Make a crowdfunding page? Get some sort of bigger company like Netflix to help? Whatever they do, I’m behind it 100%.

So, to help hold myself over until the next installment, I went to the Hazbin Hotel website to read the free – yes, free – first installment of the prequel comic about how Angel Dust came to agree to be Charlie’s first subject.

And, no surprise, I loved it as well. It kept the same feel and gorgeous art as the episode, while giving us a bit more story while we wait.
