I was super excited when I was contacted about being sent some books from It’s Alive! Press. I love checking out new things, and while I definitely have genre preferences, I’m often up for variety to an extent.
I’m doing mini reviews of each, ranking from what I enjoyed least to most. Though I’d like to state – none of these were bad comics! So if any look great to you, definitel check them out.
Battle For Britain:
From the It’s Alive Press site: Each Combat one shot features true stories from WWII, illustrated by comic book legend, WWII vet, and Eisner Award nominee Sam Glanzman! This Battle for Britain issue features the stories: “Wreck the R.A.F.!”, “Strike the Fighter Fields!”, and “The Decisive Days.” Plus: the back-up stories “The Puny, Little Yank.” Also included are essays about the Doolittle Raids and Sam Glanzman, originals covers, vintage advertisements, and photos from WWII.
I wanted to start with this one because it was my least favorite that I read – not because it was bad! But war time things are really out of my interests, and that was my only struggle with it. The restored art from the Sam Glanzman estate was very cool to see, and I know people who love these sorts of comics would love this book.
Red Range: Pirates of Fireworld:
From the It’s Alive Press site: Keith Lansdale unleashes his imagination on the historical and somewhat steampunk world his father Joe R. Lansdale and the late Sam Glanzman created back in 1999. Caleb Range (aka, The Red Mask), and his young companion Turon, find themselves under the surface of the Earth, in a place that seems lost in time. They are quickly confronted by a group of steampunk pirates in hot pursuit of a strange fellow who can only speak one name over and over again… Seetoc! Oh, and did we mention there are dinosaurs, lots and lots of dinosaurs!
This is a very different fantasy adventure sort of book. I definitely recommend reading the “Story so far” page so you don’t feel lost about what’s going on. Enjoyable with an interesting premise. If you like adventures, pirates, unique story lines – definitely read this book.
Breathers:
From the It’s Alive Press site: Breathers follows a small cast of individuals as they struggle to make sense of the dystopian world they live in, as a virus is unleashed into the air, rendering it deadly to humans. Among them: a detective whose addiction to the drug known as “Filter K” takes over his life; a brother and sister who, due to recent events, start to wonder if the air really is deadly, or if it’s all just a conspiracy; a mother and daughter who will do anything to keep their family together; and a breather salesman who is looking to make amends for his past mistakes. They are all survivors of this virus-plagued world. They are all “breathers.”
BREATHERS is created, written and illustrated by Justin Madson.
I LOVED Breathers by Justin Madson. The art was fantastic, and I loved the stories inside. The Indigogo for Breathers #3 just launched, and anyone missing the first two issues can get those there along with supporting issue #3.

Pink Lemonade and Pink Lemonade Holiday Grab-Bag:
From the It’s Alive Press site: Mysterious past… colorful costume… altruistic… nomadic lifestyle… it’s all pretty cool! Pink Lemonade dreams of doing big things. She just wants to be good and help where she can. But things don’t always work out the way we plan. And soon Pink Lemonade finds herself in jail, after a big misunderstanding with some cops, while trying to help a child. And just when you think she’s sunk, a powerful man shows up with an offer she may not be able to refuse! But is it too good to be true? A story full of both fun and mystery, readers are sure to get lost in her strange, action-packed adventures!
PINK LEMONADE is created, written and illustrated by Nick Cagnetti.
These were probably my two favorites. Pink Lemonade is so lovable, and the stories are so wholesome and fantastic. I had a good chuckle at the Batman references in Pink Lemonade, and overall really think this is a character/series people can really get into! Definitely check it out.
