Review: Birds of Prey (Spoiler Free)

I’ve seen Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) three times, now. Yes, it just open this weekend and yes, I DID love it that much.

Birds of Prey is incredibly badass, full of gorgeous and brutal fight scenes, a full emotional spectrum from funny, to disturbing and uncomfortable, to heartwarming, and thrilling. Each character gets time to shine, and each is different and unique. They don’t all fit the same mold, and I love that about them.

Ewan McGregor does a great job giving us a villain we want to hate after a pivotal moment in the movie. I’m really hoping they put out a figure of him all suited up as Black Mask, because it is glorious.

Yes. It is R rated, for violence, language, and mild drug use, mostly. Nothing too shocking honestly, and not something that deterred me from taking my nieces.

All in all, I fell madly in love with Birds of Prey, and hope it succeeds, so the things set up in this film can carry us forward to more badass women of the DC Universe getting their time in the spotlight. Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn paved the way, now it’s time to bring more ladies forward.

I’ll have a more in depth discussion coming soon, with spoilers, Easter eggs, etc. So look for that!

Go check out Birds of Prey in theaters!
