I’ve been watching anime more and more, lately. Partially on my own, just because I’ve been getting back into it, and some with my nieces, because they’ve been getting into anime and manga.
The three in this post I’m going to be talking about, I have not watched with my nieces, and have been more personal enjoyment shows with darker themes.
Death Parade

“The Quindecim Bar hosts games between the recently deceased that determine the fate of their souls.“
First of all, this has to be not only one of the greatest openings in an anime ever, but also one with the most opposite moods. The opening song is upbeat and fun, the characters are all happy and dancing and adorable.
And then you watch the show, and get emotionally wrecked.
Obviously, this is a show about death, and I don’t want to give away much more than that, because I went in fairly blind and I think it was better for me that way. This is a favorite of my best friend, so I trusted her opinion.
I definitely recommend watching Death Parade if you haven’t. It’s just one season, so it’s a quick binge. But be warned – it’ll tug on your heartstrings.
Future Diary

“A boy becomes caught up in a deadly game after his cell phone diary begins predicting the future.”
I have been on a dark kick, and in some weird mood for yandere stuff. And boy oh boy, do we get some crazy yandere stuff from Yuno.
This is a wild ride of an anime, that’s for sure. Highly entertaining, sometimes quite disturbing and dark, and overall worth a watch if you’re in the mood for it.

Also, Akise Aru is my favorite.
Angels of Death

“When Rachel wakes up in the basement of an unfamiliar building, she finds she’s lost all her memory. As she tries to get clear of the basement, she runs into Zack, a scythe-carrying serial killer wrapped from head to toe in bandages. A bizarre promise brings these two together, and they become irreplaceable partners to each other. The journey of life and death begins…“
I fell pretty hard for this show, to my surprise, and it may be my favorite of these three I’ve talked about.

There are a lot of twists and turns and bizarre moments, but I adored this series so much. The biggest shock to me, was how much I came to love Zack’s character. Just watch and you’ll see what I mean.
If you have any shows you want me to check out, leave your suggestions in the comments.
