Review: Everglade Angels #1

A wrong turn down a dead end road. A car that won’t start. An unspeakable evil emerges from the darkness. No phones. No weapons. No escape. Think you’ve seen this all before? Think again. When a girls softball team takes a shortcut through the Florida Everglades, they veer off the path towards a night they’ll never forget – drinking, dancing – one last hurrah before college starts and they go their separate ways. When they stumble into a trap set by a murderous cult, the stage is set for a night of blood-soaked carnage, but the cult has never dealt with victims who are ready to fight back.

I am a girl that enjoys the simple pleasures in life: slasher horror, murderous cults, and girl power. And I hit the JACKPOT with Everglade Angels.

Blake Northcott (and Scott Lobdell, but I’m not going to lie, I grabbed this for Blake) bring us a fantastic story, with a unique twist on the stereotypical approach of a “girls night out gone wrong” horror trope. And did I mention the cult stuff? Because if you guys know me by now, you know I just adore cult stuff.

I love how badass this group of girls is, too. When trouble presents itself, they step up to bat. It’s truly satisfying.

The art is an absolutely perfect fit for the story. Creepy, beautiful, giving off the horror vibe we all crave. Bravo to John Upchurch for a fantastic job. It felt like I was immersed in a horror movie.

Fans of horror, do not miss out on this one! Grab it at your local shop, or order from Scout Comics directly. I’m dying for more, already.

And you can listen to a fantastic interview with Blake Northcott on Bat Force Radio:
