Batman: White Knight Presents – Harley Quinn #2

Story by: Katana Collins, Sean Murphy
Art by: Matteo Scalera
Colors by: Dave Stewart
Letters by: AndWorld

Gotham City’s elusive serial killer, the Starlet, and her mysterious benefactor reach the pinnacle of their power, terrorizing the city and teasing the GCPD with strange clues and a famous new victim. Harley goes rogue and hunts down a shocking major lead in the case, but her ruthless style backfires and she puts herself at the mercy of Commissioner Montoya for a shot at redemption. When FBI Agent Hector Quimby becomes an ally in a crucial moment, he and Harley forge a partnership that will soon take them down a familiar and ominous road.

I had the incredible pleasure of reading issue two immediately after issue one, so I’ve had some time to let my thoughts really simmer on this one.

Standing by my opinion on issue one – this is a fantastic approach to Harley Quinn, and incredibly well written. Harley is seen from a very human perspective – not only is she Harley Quinn, but she’s a mother struggling: with postpartum, with money, with the loss of the two people closest to her. But getting the gig helping hunt down the new killer in Gotham may be the kick she needs to find herself again, and I absolutely love it.

There are so many backstory details, and present day reveals (like the names of her twins, which really made me happy), and it makes this issue so, so good. I think this issue will definitely make fans happy, with more depth into the Jack and Harleen relationship, why she stuck by him, and so much more.

Matteo Scalera absolutely knocks it out of the park with the art, again. The pages are all beautiful, and everything flows so gorgeously. It all feels right at home in the White Knight universe, while still holding his own style. And the coloring work by Dave Stewart compliments Scalera’s work stunningly, really adding to every panel. AndWorld designs lettering is a perfect fit – well placed, great font, and just top quality as you’d expect.

Don’t miss out on issue two! And if you want more, check out the interview with Katana and Sean on Bat Force Radio:

Let me know what you think once you’ve had the chance to read it!
