Hadestown at the Fabulous Fox

For the last two and a half-ish years, my nieces and I have lovingly listened to the Hadestown soundtrack (in particular, they know every word to both versions of Wait For Me), and dreamed of the day we could somehow go see it. Initially, I intended to take them to a leg of the tour in Tennessee in 2020, but then, well… 2020 happened.

But little did the girls know, I was entirely motivated to get them to the show somehow – and the moment it was announced for the Fox in St. Louis, I waited patiently to purchase tickets.

Best of 2015

There were a lot of ups and downs to 2015. Being unemployed for a few months really ruined some travel plans or me. But there were definitely a lot of great moments over all! I’d like to look back on some of my favorite things of the past year:

SWW1

Ian McDiarmid aka Emperor Palpatine

Star Wars Weekend 2015 at Walt Disney World:

While I fully plan to do an actual full post on the insane coolness which was this event, I do need to spoil it some now. In May last year, we took my nieces for their first ever trip to Disney World and Universal, and strategically planned it so the girls could go for Star Wars Weekends. Well, long story short, my nieces were picked to be in the opening parade, in which they’d be dressed as Jedi Padawans and given lightsabers and some quick training from the Jedi Academy, before leading the celebrity guests in that were riding in the parade. And they needed two adults to walk the parade with the girls… I WALKED IN THE STAR WARS PARADE WITH EMPEROR PALPATINE!

At the Fox: Wicked

WICKED3

Welcome to the first At the Fox post! “At the Fox” is a new series I’d like to start here about productions I’ve gone to see at the Fox Theater in St Louis, which is an absolute must if you visit St Louis and have the opportunity. What better way to start that WICKED?

Once upon a time (the time leading up to December 2012), I was a lover of theater that had never seen WICKED. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about the show before I saw it. WICKED, if you don’t know the show, is the untold story of the witches of Oz, specifically surrounding the “Wicked Witch of the West” and the events leading up to and during the Wizard of Oz. In retrospect, I have no idea why I just shrugged off seeing it when my mom did. But when WICKED came back to the Fox in December 2012, my mom bought a ticket for me and insisted I go. And I did. And I loved it. And I bought tickets to go again during that same tour.

Imagine my excitement when it was announced a few months ago that WICKED would be returning? Tickets were bought with enough time in advance for seats SIX ROWS BACK from the stage and in the center. Best seats I’ve had so far at the Fox!

WICKED

Honestly, I don’t know if it was the amazing seats, or the excitement to see it again, but this was seriously the BEST performance of WICKED I’ve seen. The entire cast was perfect in each roll, and the Elphaba (aka Wicked Witch of the West) was phenomenal. I was blown away! I’m really disappointed I won’t have a chance to see it again while it’s in St Louis, but I’m still so, SO happy with the one time seeing it this year.

So, if you’re ever in St Louis, check out the Fabulous Fox – and if WICKED ever comes on tour anywhere near you, check it out! Definitely a must see!
