NTYCBD: What I Read 4/8/20

What is NTYCBD? Well, since New Comic Book Day is on hold until who knows when, the tag NTYCBD (New To You Comic Book Day) has been floating around online. And I figured that this was the perfect opportunity to catch up on some of the last issues I picked up in stores before working on my To Be Read pile.

If any of these sound interesting, contact your local shops and see if they have them in stock! If so, and if they’re offering it, use the mail or curbside pick up options, and help support shops during all of this. If your shop doesn’t have them, closed temporarily, etc: some of these publishers are offering their books through their websites.

So, let’s do some mini reviews of what I read, today.

Free Comic Book Day 2019

May the 4th (Be With You) and Free Comic Book Day hit on the same day this year, which made my hope for a whole Star Wars themed party a bit unattainable, but we did get to have an accidentally too busy FCBD.

We only went to one participating shop, but before that went to another shop we enjoy mostly because, for once, my brother was also with us, so it seemed like a good excuse to drive an hour out of the way.

So, first stop was Villainous Grounds.

Hellboy Day 2019

In 1994, Dark Horse Comics published the debut issue of Hellboy: Seed of Destruction and introduced comic book readers to the Right Hand of Doom, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, and one of the most iconic comic book characters—and universes—of all time.” – from Dark Horse

Yesterday was Hellboy day, so we took my nieces to a local participating shop to get some goodies. Luckily, All the Rage in Festus, MO was not only having Hellboy Day, but also a big moving sale.

Free Comic Book Day 2018

Another year, another Free Comic Book Day. And it was busy busy busy. This year we took my nieces on a big adventure to three shops – Villainous Grounds, All the Rage, and my local shop – Not Just Comix.

I will state before going into this, that it is important to remember that even though it is Free Comic Book Day, these comics are not free to shops, and it’s important you buy something as well as pick up your free comics. I didn’t have the most money on this trip due to Fan Expo crunch time, but I still made sure to buy something at all three shops – as did my mother, my brother, and the girls. Please support local shops and keep them in business.

First up: Villainous Grounds

Cons, cons, and more cons.

conbag

For the last month, roughly, I’ve been an exceptionally busy gal on the weekend. Between the first weekend of February until the first weekend of March, I’ve been at some sort of con every other weekend:

  • Wizard World St Louis
  • Planet Comic Con (in Kansas City)
  • STL Comics Winter One-Day

HOLY EXHAUSTION, BATMAN! My poor wallet hurts.

However, it was a pretty fun to have so many, so close together, to compare how different they felt. Different levels and experiences, etc. So, while I plan to post about each one individually, I’d like to take a moment to compare the three.
