I was recently contacted by an Australian company called Geek X about their new line of licensed DC collectibles, and asked if I’d share some of their upcoming preorders. And man, they have some beautiful stuff on the way!
“The secrets of the DC Universe are hacked! Sanctuary wasn’t supposed to keep records, but now that the A.I. is compromised, superhero secrets are leaking all over the ’Net. Booster and Harley set aside their differences to focus on who they believe is the real killer (assuming one of them isn’t lying, that is). Meanwhile, Batman and the Flash continue to investigate the mysterious murderer. The answer can be found in Sanctuary…but is it safe to go digging in the crime scene?”
Heroes in Crisis issue 5 is out today, and Tom King is here to tug on our heartstrings again.
Disclaimer: Until confirmed by the company, these remain rumors. You can read the original post on Attraction Magazine’s site.
Everyone is on edge (heh), waiting for Galaxy’s Edge to open up this year. Personally, I’m dying to go, and can’t wait until the time comes I can finally plan my return to Disney World and devote a few days to immersing myself in one of my favorite fandoms. You can bet I’ll be decked out in all my Star Wars gear and ready to completely geek out.
We’re heading into a new year, and with it, I’m steadily working on plans to make it a great year for Wandering NerdGirl. This is a rough idea of how I aim to approach next year, and there is always room to add or remove things.
DC has been getting a lot of attention for controversial things the last few months: the BatCat Wedding, the infamous Damned insanity – both things I was completely fine with. I loved both issues. And come on, people. Human anatomy isn’t a big deal in a mature title. No one cares about Dr. Manhattan’s penis being out in Watchmen.
That brings me to a new buzz topic: I feel like there is an Anti-Tom King Club, full of some fairly silly people that either don’t understand what they’re reading, don’t get fed their fan fiction they want, or they’re insanely jealous. At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course. But I would like my energy to be devoted to doing the opposite of most people – when I love something, I want to talk about it and praise the creators.
It was heartbreaking for me to not attend Halloween Horror Nights 27 last year- this is my favorite Halloween event and it definitely didn’t feel like Halloween without it. And while it’s still up in the air whether or not I’ll get to attend this year, I am super excited about the first three house announcements so far.
There have been several celebrity guests announced so far, but we’re finally getting to the ones I’m more interested in for this con – comic guests!
First announced is prettttty exciting:
Between holidays, health, and generalized busy busy busy times – I got pretty behind here. For that, I am deeply sorry. However! Some of my busy was related to things I can post about! So, at least we have that to show for my absence.
I’m working on getting posts ready in advance so even if I fall behind due to life, there’s plenty of content I can have saved and ready to post!
PLUS – I’m planning to add some new features. So stay tuned, kids!

Saturday was supposed to be a good day. SUPPOSED TO BE. And while it wasn’t necessarily a bad day, it did present me with a problem I hadn’t anticipated.
After I was pretty much ready to go, had makeup and clothes on, something happened. I picked my glasses up from the bathroom counter… and they fell apart. Turns out, I lost a screw.
Have I mentioned I wear glasses because I’m blind, and not for a cute fashion statement or slight vision correction?
Ugh.
Navigating an unfamiliar city when you can’t see is slightly horrifying. Everything already seems weird and blurry, but it’s so disorienting it nearly caused a small panic attack. Made it to the con just fine, thankfully. But then came a new problem:
Trying to navigate this HUGE con on the busiest day.
Let’s just say – not my easiest day.
But, let’s move on:
I managed to make my way to another DC panel. I couldn’t see much of anything, but that’s what terrible cell phone pictures are for, right? Haha.
So, this panel was all about Dark Matter. All that amazing Metal goodness DC has going on? Yeah. I know ALL ABOUT EVERYTHING, now. Which is great, because I was already loving Metal and excited for everything to come. This just took my hype to the next level.
Now, this was supposed to be Snyder, Capullo, and Lemire. But, as it was with the Friday panel, more surprise guests! And two VERY exciting ones, at that: Jason Fabok, and JIM LEE.
Yup. Jim Lee just walks in. I was pretty ecstatic.
If you aren’t reading Metal, the tie-ins, etc — you’re missing out. And now that I’ve had a taste of what’s to come, I can assure you… it’s only going to get more badass.
Remember the cool Metal variant I bought the day before?
I was lucky enough to meet Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo later that, and they kindly signed my variant. I’m shocked on Saturday, the busiest day of the con, I managed to meet them – but, hey. I’m a lucky girl.
Despite the whole breaking my glasses thing.
Overall, despite my setback in the morning, Saturday was great. I returned to my hotel room with nourishment – well, Coke, Powerade, and Doritos: The Dinner of Champions – and started packing for Sunday.
My last day of con, and my inevitable return home, were already on the horizon.
