There is one thing vampires fear more than anything else…

and it’s not the sun. Everyone knows that wooden stakes and holy water kill vampires, but not many people know that the best weapon against a vampire is a unicorn’s horn.

Review: Dark One

Some worlds are made to be broken.

Paul Tanasin is a young man haunted by visions of a dark and fantastic world―visions he initially believes are hallucinations. But when he discovers they are prophecies from Mirandus, a world in which he’s destined to become a fearsome destroyer, he’ll have to embrace the fear, rise up as the Dark One, and shatter everything. Dark One examines the dual roles we often take on in life—the ability to be a savior as well as a destroyer.

NTYCBD: What I Read 4/8/20

What is NTYCBD? Well, since New Comic Book Day is on hold until who knows when, the tag NTYCBD (New To You Comic Book Day) has been floating around online. And I figured that this was the perfect opportunity to catch up on some of the last issues I picked up in stores before working on my To Be Read pile.

If any of these sound interesting, contact your local shops and see if they have them in stock! If so, and if they’re offering it, use the mail or curbside pick up options, and help support shops during all of this. If your shop doesn’t have them, closed temporarily, etc: some of these publishers are offering their books through their websites.

So, let’s do some mini reviews of what I read, today.

Review: RISE #1-5

“Nine-year-old royal orphan Zakaiah falls heir to the throne of the broken post-apocalyptic kingdom of Pacifica, and must endure the Trials of the House of Jasser, a series of tests designed to prepare her to occupy the seat of the kingdom. Recently orphaned and reluctant to embark on a set of trials to teach and test her on the responsibilities that now rest on her shoulders, she is guided on this tumultuous path by soldiers and strangers, plagued by their own struggles, pasts and hidden agendas. Embarking on the journey on a dark road with strangers who now answer to her and inexperienced in carrying the weight of the world, she’s left the only home she’s ever known to explore the realm she now has the responsibility to rule. Behind them, the empty throne is at the mercy of a ruling class that threatens to usurp it for their own dark agendas, and just beyond the shadows ahead, the emergence of an ancient evil threatens to halt their journey dead in its tracks.
