It’s New Comic Book Day, and I’m here with a new review and recommendation.
DCEASED #1 is here, and maaaan, I’ve been excited for this one.
Info about the creatives involved:
By Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Gaudiano, James Harren, Rain Beredo, Saida Temofonte, and Ben Abernathy.
Cover A: Greg Capullo
Cover B: Francesco Mattina
Cover C: Yasmine Putri

Plus a bunch of other awesome variant covers I couldn’t even imagine trying to round up.
So, what’s it about? From DC:
“I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was Death, and Hades was following close behind him.”—Revelation 6:8
A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction.
The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?
New York Times best-selling writer Tom Taylor (INJUSTICE) returns with a terrifying new tale and is joined by artists Trevor Hairsine (LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT) and Stefano Gaudiano (The Walking Dead).

There’s a lot to love in this kickoff issue. I’m a big fan of horror, and from the first covers I saw, I knew this was going to appeal to me. Combining my love for horror with DC characters is practically baiting me. Like someone out there knew what would sell me to start something new.
And they would be right. I’m digging it.
DCEASED is a lot of creepy cool fun. Well… for us readers, that is. We’re thrown into the action right away, and it’s fantastic. The first issue is chaos in a beautiful way, and I loved feeling genuinely worried for the characters involved. While it’s obviously not the same thing, it gives me a feeling reminiscent of what Metal and The Batman Who Laughs gave me, but with a further step into the darkness and horror in the best way possible.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series. I definitely recommend picking it up if you love darker stuff. Forget the dread of who died in Endgame and Game of Thrones this weekend, and brace yourself for DCEASED. Because it’s the next edge-of-your-seat event in your life.
Anyone else pick this up today, or planning to? Let me know what you think!
